Weekend Snapshot, Five Years Apart

One of my favorite things about living in California is having the perfect weather for family walks year round (the first photo is from today, the bottom one is from 2008 when our five year old daughter was a newborn):

I adore these photos of my sweet husband holding our babies.

By the way, we ADORE our new Baby K’tan carrier way more than the Moby Wrap. (Thank you to Jake for the awesome present!) There’s no going back once you find a baby carrier you and the newborn both love.

Our New Evening Routine

We have a new mother-daughter routine. Each night at dusk we watch the barn owls hunt in the field across from our house.

Sometimes we watch from our living room window, other nights we bundle up and sit out in our lawn chairs to take in the view.

I truly feel that this “nature observation activity” is everyday learning at its finest.

Simple, magical, thought-provoking, and so very exciting.

Countdown to Christmas

Christmas may be just around the corner, but our family is counting down to something else that’s happening on December 25th:

We’re moving into our new place, a house just down the street but quite a bit bigger.

In the meantime the girls are frantically packing while David spends his days painting. No time for blogging or extra activities, sending cards or holiday baking. We’re focused on the move and, out of necessity, having a low-key Christmas season.

Cause we’re getting this awesome present on the 25th.

Happy holidays! See you back here in the new year!

Just the Two of Us

There’s so much going on with us and so little time to blog! Have I mentioned that my cousin Julia is now living with us, that we’re moving down the street next month, that I am on modified bed rest (again) until at least Tuesday?! See, so much going on.

RIGHT NOW though David and I are vacationing in Santa Cruz, just the two of us, celebrating ten years together and our first trip away since the birth of our daughter almost five years ago.

Trip to Santa Cruz

Instead of romping around the area, we’re resting and reading, chatting and laughing, playing games, and eating yummy food. Just two best friends, hanging out, savoring uninterrupted time together.

Oh, and sleeping in. I haven’t slept this well in years.

See you back here again soon!
