Oh, yummers!

We’ve discovered that Miss Leyba eats a greater quantity of solid food when she feeds herself. We put some pureed deliciousness on a teaspoon (because she only wants to eat from our spoons… not hers) and then hand it to her and she feeds herself. Sometimes she’s really devious and gets a hold of the bowl too.

Love my independent woman.

To date, she’s currently tried:

  • butternut squash,
  • avocado,
  • banana,
  • quinoa and rice cereals,
  • apple,
  • pear, and
  • peas.

Banana is by far her favorite, especially when she’s sharing one that I’m eating… it’s messy, but fun!

Friends gave us their used Stokke Tripp Trapp (boy did we luck out!) and it’s worked perfectly for our family. Instead of a typical high chair, she can sit with us at the table… and she loves it!

(The adorable place mat is by Crocodile Creek.)

Miss Leyba’s favorite things

I’ve added a widget of some of Miss Leyba’s favorite books and toys for those of you in the market for baby gifts. See the right hand column for some of Miss Leyba and my loves.

We highly recommend Haba’s German-made Fantasy Blocks! (We are very willing to pay extra for USA or European made “safe” toys! Let’s keep her intake of toxic materials to a minimum.) She’s been carrying a block around with her nonstop since they arrived yesterday.

An extra perk: evidently they are absolutely delicious.

Kitchen helper

Someone just loves keeping me company in the kitchen.

I open the fridge and she heads straight for it.

And she now knows where the metal bowls and colanders are kept.

She also likes to unpack groceries. Now isn’t that so helpful?!

It actually works out great because Miss Leyba has entered the long awaited mama-must-be-right-next-to-me stage, so if she’s busy playing at my feet, at least I know she isn’t getting into too much trouble while I fix dinner.
