We’ve been pouring over Geninne Zlatkis’s brand new, beautiful and imaginative book Making an Impression: Designing & Creating Artful Stamps. We watched Geninne’s stamp carving video and reread Amanda Soule’s inspirational post (from years ago!) about stamp carving with children, then decided to get to work.
First we headed to the local art supply store to pick up a Linoleum Cutter Kit and Speedy-Cut Carving Blocks; then we got to work!
Such a fun first attempt! We’re excited to make more beautiful hand-carved stamps.
Love this project! I know it’s blasphemy, but I find myself so excited for Elsa to grow up (just a little!) so we can do projects like this! I’ll have to go back in your archives to when Ms. Leyba was 2 and see what you crafty ladies were up to!
I *love* the house stamp!
This would be a perfect “signature” for note cards or return addresses or something. You’re giving me all sorts of ideas!
Those are such beautiful stamps! I love the house :D
The house stamp is my favorite too! Evidently it’s our daughter’s rendition of “our house!”
Love the stamps!! Awesome!
Fabulous! I love that you’re one of those mothers that shows how to hold the carving implement safely, instead of being anxious about “sharp tools” and doing it yourself. Points for you!
…and I love that Miss L is properly accessorized with that gorgeous necklace. :)
Random tie in to other projects — if you do pumpkin carving, linoleum carving tools are *the best* for pumpkin carving! The best Jack O’Lantern I ever saw was by my friend Brigid in college who used her linoleum carving tools. Way more control than with those stupid knives.
I love it! Thanks for the tip!
