Toddler Art Napkins

I love the idea of turning everyday items into something more special and meaningful, such as transforming plain white napkins into unique artwork with a toddler and fabric markers!

These napkins are perfect for family meals, cheap and easy to make, and how empowering for little ones to enjoy eating with something they made.

I know it makes my meal more special.

(Project inspired by similar toddler creations at my friend Alissa’s house! Thanks, Alissa!)

  1. Such a cute idea! I assume the fabric markers don’t stop the napkins from being machine- or hand-washable, right? Cold water is the key? Very beautiful artwork by a very talented Miss Leyba. =)

    1. Alexis: They are machine washable! First, I heat-set the fabric markers by running the napkins in the dryer for an hour, then I let them sit for about two weeks to help the color set more. Then they are ready to be washed in cold water and used!

I figure if the color fades over time then we can just do another layer of drawing on them, re-heat-set them and use them some more! I’ll let you know how it works.

  2. Love it. Hopefully she doesn’t mind her artwork getting dirty at mealtime. Pretty sure my daughter would not let us wipe our tomato sauce on her artwork :)

  3. So cute! Did you make the napkins or buy them? For Channa’s B-Day we had the kids make pizza and sundaes and decorate their own cooking aprons with fabric markers. It was a lot of fun-maybe we’ll make some napkins too!

  4. Ah-ha! I figured they needed to set somehow. Good crafting info to know. You are such a devoted crafter! The next time I have the pleasure of dining or snacking in your home, I shall take care to admire my napkin. ;-)
